INRA - IATE

INRA is a public research institute with a mission-oriented research focused on diet, agriculture and environment. INRA is the largest European organization for agricultural research with a staff of 9000 and a budget of 680 million €. INRA, which is member of EURAGRI and of the European Science Foundation, contributes to the construction of the European Research Area, and participates, as partner or coordinator, in 129 projects in the FP6. INRA’s Joint Research Unit “Agro-polymer Engineering and Emerging Technologies” (IATE) associates 4 research institutes: INRA, Université Montpellier, Montpellier Supagro and CIRAD. IATE aims at understanding and valorizing renewable resources for food and bio-based products and focusing on the development of new strategies and innovative options using renewable resources for food, eco-materials, bio-molecules and bio-energy. In the field of eco-materials, IATE has strong expertise on integrated approach of food/processing/packaging systems, on mass transfer modeling on the food/packaging system and on active and biodegradable food packaging. Activities of IATE include creating tools allowing prediction, simulation and control of transfer phenomena associated with the molecules of (negative or positive) interest and their impact on the quality and security of food. IATE activities involved the development of integrated application of knowledge, information and technologies to ensure food quality and safety.
