ALLIANCENext Generation of Advanced Active and Intelligent Packaging for Food
Alliance in food-packaging area.
Our Strategy :
A collaboration between INRA Montpellier (France) and Fraunhofer IVV (Germany) to improve competitiveness while remaining independent.
Alliance description :
NGP Alliance aims to provide the best strategic options to support the development of innovative and safe eco-friendly packaging for food, using some of the world’s most advanced and powerful laboratories, multi-scales equipment and decision support tools. NGP Alliance gathers together the leading scientific experts in the areas of food and materials sciences to reinforce worldwide scientific and economic competitiveness of food and packaging sectors.
NGP Alliance‘s roadmap targets activities that could significantly accelerate innovation and address safety, competitiveness and environmental issues of food packaging technologies. NGP Alliance‘s strategy is based on an integrated trans-disciplinary and challenge-driven approach able to design novel concepts of active, intelligent and sustainable food packaging solutions.
NGP Alliance is building on a solid Franco-German history of collaboration (between INRA and Fraunhofer), which combine unique complementary expertise in the large field of food packaging R&D.
The ultimate goal of NGP Alliance is of bringing to all stakeholders a broad range of key enabling knowledge and technologies developed by NGP Alliance’s partners, through a readiness levels continuum.
NGP Alliance aims to initiate a large European network and platform of R&D key actors devoted to packaging. It also aims to contribute to joint European research projects and will use offered possibilities in HORIZON 2020 to expand their collaboration and their scientific competences.
History and scientific synergies
The INRA (and/or French Carnot Institute 3BCAR) and the German Fraunhofer IVV institute collaboration started in 2000’s. In 2009, they have co-initiated successfully one of the most important joint European project devoted to the design of innovative sustainable food packaging: EcoBioCAP [www.ecobiocap.eu].
A few years later, another important project has consolidated INRA and Fraunhofer alliance in the field of innovative packaging technologies development [www.nextgenpack.eu]
